N3DS exclusives

.

ciao
while the rest of this site was created with an OLD 3DS in mind, this section focuses on the NEW 3DS exclusives that exist, which are all listed here. the list also includes the snes virtual console titles that were released, although the OLD 3DS can emulate the snes as well. another difference worth noting is that the NEW 3DS, unlike the OLD 3DS, can emulate PlayStation 1 games (some games better than others, here’s some examples)

the 3DS family

.

ciao
with six models to choose from, it can be confusing to decide which one to get. the main differences among the models to take into consideration are price, size, power, and the presence or lack of the 3D function. we can divide the models into the 3DS models (commonly referred to as OLD 3DS models) and the NEW 3DS models. here’s a video comparing the systems

NEW

ciao
in short:
• the NEW models are improved and more powerful than the OLD ones (therefore there's more homebrew apps, fan ports and emulation possibilities), have some exclusive games, and have some new buttons (a second analog stick and the ZL/ZR buttons)
• as the name suggests, the XL (known as “LL” in japan) models are bigger. the OLD 3DS in particular is quite small compared to all of the others; the NEW 3DS, despite being a small model, is still bigger than the OLD one
• the 2DS models do not have the 3D functionality while the 3DS models do
• unlike the other models, the 2DS is non-foldable: some people find this design to be more comfortable to hold, others hate it entirely, so it’s up to your specific preferences
• getting to the SD card is a bit more tricky/annoying on the NEW 3DS and NEW 3DS XL, because it requires opening its back with a screwdriver. this isn’t the case for the other models, which have an SD card slot on the side.
• speaking of SD cards, any size can be supported as long as it’s formatted to FAT32, but anything above 128 GB will slow down the console significantly. i also suggest using a SD card from a reliable brand (like sandisk).
• this is how the models rank from cheapest to most expensive (although it obviously depends on the offers you find):

modding

.

ciao
this site discusses games you can only play when the 3DS is modded. the nintendo 3DS eshop closed down, therefore, on a non-modded 3DS you can only play DS and 3DS games bought second-hand (a lot of them being ridiculously expensive), which is why modding your 3DS is now the best way to enjoy games on it. modding can also let you do tons of more cool things, i really can’t recommend it enough. you can mod your 3DS by following this guide, which is the best, safest and most reliable guide

i recommend using this guide as it’s always updated, compared to youtube guides which tend to be outdated, enhancing the risk of bricking your 3DS (although it’s almost impossible to brick it). when modded, your 3DS can play games of the consoles listed here, as well as a myriad of fan ports, homebrew games and romhacks; here’s some (1) (2) (3), but the community works hard and keeps bringing new amazing projects to life every day!
